What you need

  • 4 horseshoes (2 per team)
  • 2 metal stakes

Setup

  1. Drive stakes 40 feet apart (30 ft for casual play).
  2. Split into 2 teams of 1-2.
  3. Alternate throws from behind the opposite stake.

How to play

  1. Ringer (shoe around stake) = 3 points.
  2. Closest shoe within 6 inches of stake = 1 point.
  3. Cancellation scoring per round.
  4. First to 21 wins.

  • Check the weather — have a rain plan.
  • Set clear boundaries so kids/pets don't wander off.
  • Rotate teams so everyone plays with everyone.
